Sports have found a special place in the hearts of millions. While many of them simply enjoy watching the matches, the others love to take a huge leap to the field for a game. We have been accustomed to mention only the most popular and commercialized sports when listing down the various options. However, there is more to the world of sports that most of us tend to overlook. Our calf muscles crave to sprint all the way down the course for a marathon, but only the souls powered by confidence can tackle the challenges in such a race. Buckle up your shoes for this year’s European obstacle course racing, and head over to the heights for a long sprint and climb.

The European Obstacle Sports Federation has been promoting this sport over the last half-decade, but it doesn’t transcend the borders to be imbibed for what it represents. Development of the sport is the primary aim of the organization, and every step taken by this team only keeps adding to the overall promotion of the race. As we near the events of this new year, the need of the hour is to know the details of the championship. Let us take a closer look at the OCR championship of 2021.

How to Qualify for the European OCR Championships

Competition Details

Competitive categories for the Age Group and Elite athletes are a part of the national teams. Five-year brackets set the limits for the age groups, which would range from under 20 to 60+. The age of the athlete is his/her age on the 31st of December of that year. Journeyman categories cannot participate in the race. You can check the rules of the competition on the official website of FISO, which has set the rules for every event.

How to Qualify for the Championship

The two main course events are Short and Standard, which are further separated into multiple divisions. Elite is the category where the gender of the participant is considered. Make sure that you check your age before registering for the race. It wouldn’t be your current age, but the number you hit by the end of the year the race is taking place. The minimum age to register for the event is 16 years, but you can participate in the shorts if you are above 14. The age group categories are:

  • 14-15
  • 16-17
  • 18-19
  • 20-24
  • 25-29
  • 30-34
  • 35-39
  • 40-44
  • 45-49
  • 50+

One another division for the Open Course is Journeyman, which requires no much qualification unless otherwise stated. The only criteria that apply for this category are:

  • Elite or Age Group division can be registered for by the top 10 per gender
  • For the Age Group, the top 10 of each age group qualifies for the race

If the qualifying race publishes the results for every age group, it could be possible for you to qualify for the Age Group division. When these results aren’t published, the only way to make it to the final race is by qualifying in the overall results.
